| Huawei Honor 6x; Mate 9 Lite; GR5 2017 |
Released in January 2017, the Huawei Honor 6X, otherwise known as Huawei GR5 (2017) or Mate 9 Lite had a lot of people with high expectations. This is primarily because its predecessor, the 5X, had us all impressed. The Honor 6X looks a lot like the Huawei Mate 9, though smaller. One thing is for sure, it has a much smoother design. The HONOR 6x sports a metal body with plastic trimmings at the bottom and edges. Classy and practical. The Honor 6X is no glass cup; it will fall to rise consistently.
The Honor 6X runs on Android OS 6.0 Marshmallow (upgradeable to 7.0 Nougat) as well as EMUI 4.1. Thankfully, it accommodates 4G LTE. Both SIM cards are nano though, so you’ll have to prepare for that in advance, except, of course, your SIM cards are already nano. How big is this device? Well, the screen size is 5.5 inches which isn’t bad even for small-palmed persons. Its height is 150.90mm, width: 72.60mm, and thickness 8.20 mm. It weighs a moderate 162.00grams, so no; it cannot be used for weightlifting.
The Honor 6X uses Huawei’s own processor, the Kirin 655. This is a bonus because this processor lets you run your programs, games, and applications with a smooth and easy flourish. Another strong point which is a main reason the honor 6X is a great choice is its battery power. It is equipped with a non-removable 3340 mAh battery. I rather like this feature combined with a bomb processor. It means you can multitask easily, for a very long time. This phone runs on standby for 650 hours (wow wow wow). In addition, it charges quite fast, meaning you only need to charge for about an hour to get a full battery.
In addition to the outstanding Kirin chipset, the Huawei Honor 6X is powered by a 1.7GHz octa-core processor. Its RAM measures a whopping 4GB (with 3GB variants as well). For the ROM, Huawei has equipped it with 64GB (32GB variants as well). It’s upgradeable via SD card to 256 GB. This brings me to the part I wholly wish was absent. Yes folks, the Huawei GR5 2017 makes use of the much dreaded HYBRID-SIM. *shudders* This means you’ll have to choose between 2 SIM cards and one SIM card and a memory card. To make one choose is simply barbaric and I cannot fathom why anyone thought this would be a good idea.
The cameras will not leave you giddy. While they are not terrible, I’ll say they fall within the midrange cameras. Slay kings and queens, this may not be not for you. The rear/main camera makes use of the dual cameras that is suddenly in fashion. The dual rear cameras measure 12 megapixels and 2 megapixels each. The front camera measures 8 megapixels. It is by no means a terrible camera, but it certainly could be better. Actually, I am only saying this because I have handled devices with better cameras. For this range, and the price especially, the Huawei Honor 6X takes great photos. Especially with clarity (primary job of the second camera) It lives up to the bucks you are shelling for it, trust me. For greater photos, you might want to take a look at the Tecno Phantom 8 instead, or the Gionee M7 you know…
For security, this device makes use of a fingerprint scanner located at the back. By all accounts, it’s reliable, so it won’t leave you thinking someone exchanged your fingers while you slept. One curious thing, however, is the absence of the USB type C port. Huawei decided to birth this device without one and we are not happy about that decision. But we’ll take what we can get.
And now, I’ve saved the best for last. Reading through, there’s no doubt that the Honor 6X is a high-quality phone. So you will be shocked when I tell you it’s a budget device. Yes! The Huawei is an affordable device meaning you may just be able to afford it right away. But before we check out the price, let’s take a look at the:
